Artigo Científico Acesso embargado Aspectos da doação de sangue entre acadêmicos de medicina(2018) Amorim, Beatriz Maffioletti deIntroduction: Blood is a human product, in essence, irreplaceable and your donation can save the lives of hundreds of people every day. Given the importance it represents in modern health care, future professionals in the area must be well-oriented. The profile of the students, the prevalence of blood donation, the reasons for donating or not donating, and the level of knowledge about the subject were analyzed. Methods: A cross - sectional study that used a self - administered questionnaire, answered by 448 students from UNISUL medical school enrolled in the second semester of 2017. Results: The prevalence of donation among the students was 25.4%. Most donated to help people voluntarily (97.4%). The main reason for non-donation are clinical inaptitude (53.2%). The sample was predominantly female (59.8%), belonging to the age group between 22 and 25 years old (50.2%) and studying between the 5th and the 8th phase (36.8%). The mean age of donors was approximately one year higher than among non-donors and students enrolled in grades 8-12 had a nearly 80% higher prevalence of blood donation compared to lower-grade donors. In the questions about knowledge there was no significant difference in correctness according to the semester. Conclusions: A more expressive number of blood donors were expected because they were students from the health area. It is considered that there are gaps in the learning of the academics, besides the knowledge has not increased during the graduation.
