Monografia Acesso embargado Bitucas de cigarro: Um silencioso inimigo do meio ambiente(2019) Galdino, TuanyThe incorrect disposal of solid waste became one of humanity's greatest problems. Cigarette ends are highly toxic residue. Almost all cigarettes have filters made of non-biodegradable materials where they store many hazardous substances such as benzene, arsenic and lead. Incorrectly discarded, it causes serious damage to the environment and the population. Research indicates that two cigarette ends pollute the same as one liter of domestic sewage. Despite not having specific legislation and punishments, it is necessary that people have environmental vision and mediate conscious actions. In this sense, this study aimed to investigate the degree of toxicity of cigarette ends and consequences of incorrect disposal in the perception of students and family members, smokers and non-smokers as well as some randomly chosen smokers from the urban perimeter. The study was conducted in a municipality located in the south of Santa Catarina. The approach method used was qualitative / inductive with bibliographic procedure and exploratory level. Data collection was performed through semi-structured questionnaires, interviews and direct observation. It was verified through the research the ignorance of a considerable part of the interviewed and respondents about the severity of the investigated problem. Thus, the urgency of actions by governmental and non-governmental, public and private bodies is highlighted for a broad awareness movement in an attempt to minimize this silent and serious problem for society and the environment. The researcher contributes giving lectures to students of Basic Education, High School, in the educational institution where the study was conducted. Will also post the results in open repository (RIUNI / UNISUL) for greater breadth of propagation. Thus, social awareness of the risks of improper disposal and actions such as reuse of these residues is necessary, as well as correct disposal options to reduce the harmful social and environmental impacts caused.
