Artigo Científico Acesso fechado Estudo sobre o perfil de pacientes submetidos à reabilitação com prótese bucomaxilofacial em Santa Catarina(2020) Alvarez, Rosvania BotitanoThe buccomaxillofacial prosthesis, is one of the dental specialties, destined to the rehabilitation of patients victims of some type of maxillofacial abnormality. Although it is a specialty with little knowledge among dental professionals and dentistry students, the performance of dental surgeons specialized in this area has played a relevant role in the segment of aesthetic-functional and psychosocial rehabilitation of individuals who have been affected by facial trauma or patients who underwent invasive surgery, which resulted in loss of structure in the head and neck region. Objective: To investigate the profile of patients rehabilitated with maxillofacial prostheses in Santa Catarina. Methodology: The research was carried out in a private office of Maxillofacial Prosthesis, located in downtown Florianópolis / SC. This study is cross-sectional and descriptive, being the source of secondary data collection, these data are stored in a database of patients without identification, and which contains information collected from the medical records of 249 patients undergoing rehabilitation with maxillofacial prosthesis between the periods from 2007 to 2019 in Santa Catarina. Were avaluated age, sex, etiology of the defect, family history of cancer, and type of maxillofacial prosthesis installed were evaluated. As for the inclusion criteria, all the medical records contained in the database of patients treated by the office were part of the research. Results: As a result, 65.5% of the patients were male; the most prevalent age group was between 61 and 80 years old (43%); greater prevalence in the etiology were neoplasms (86%); most patients had no family history of cancer (76%); 55.8% were referred by the private service; the prevalence of the type of BMF prosthesis installed was intraoral (39.4%). Conclusion: Male gender was predominant. The age group with the most loss of structure in the head and neck areas was the age group from 61 to 80 years old. As for the etiology of maxillofacial defects, neoplasms were the main causes. The private service made a greater referral to the maxillofacial prosthesis office and intraoral prostheses were the prostheses that had the greatest demand for confection.
