Artigo Científico Acesso aberto Auriculoterapia em pacientes com bruxismo em vigília: um estudo piloto(2018) Barbosa, Adriana ElpoObjective: To evaluate Auriculotherapy effectiveness in patients with awake bruxism. Metods: The sample consisted of 11 students aged between 20 to 26 years of the graduate courses in Health Sciences of Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina - Campus Grande Florianópolis, with diagnosis of awake bruxism, through Desencoste seus dentes® App. A questionnaire for anxiety was applied, a socio-demographic data collection and a clinical examination to assess the presence of non-carious lesions was used. The students were submitted to a 15-minute-weekly-session of Auriculotherapy, through seven days and used the App until their return to clinic. After a treatment with auriculotherapy, all the students were evaluated according to the level of anxiety again. Result: the results showed that 100% of the evaluated students presented non-carious lesions of attrition and the most affected teeth were the canine ones. Regarding the oral hygiene habits, the extra-soft-bristle-toothbrush was the most used, the most used toothpaste was the common one and the most prevalent tooth brushing movement was from the gum to the teeth. All students presented 100% of high anxiety level based on the self-perception questionnaire and awake bruxism of teeth clenching type. After a 7-day-treatment with auriculotherapy, the percentage of students with high anxiety decreased to 45.5% (high anxiety) and 54.5% (low anxiety), and the percentage of the habit of the teeth clenching decreased to 45.5% (>25% of clenching) and 54.5% (<25% of clenching). There was also no significant difference between the final anxiety level association and the awake bruxism type of teeth clenching (p= 0.220). Conclusion: It was concluded that there was no significant difference in awake bruxism after one-week-treatment with Auriculoterapia and there was no relation between the anxiety level and the awake bruxism of teeth clenching.
