Artigo Científico Acesso embargado Possíveis efeitos do turbilhão em fraturas de membros superiores: uma revisão integrativa(2020) Agostinho, Guilherme CandidoThe fractures are among the first 20 first line diagnoses presented to emergency departments. Upper limb fractures often lead to a decrease in daily living capacity and impose a substantial burden on the family and society. The whirlpool (WP) can promote beneficial physiological responses after upper extremity fractures, such as increased expandability of collagen tissue, decreased joint stiffness, production of pain relief and increased blood flow. It is a treatment option where movement can be performed during heating, allowing a uniform distribution of heat. It provides resistance and buoyancy to active physiotherapy, thus reducing the apprehension of movement of the affected area. Hot water and water turbulence increase the threshold of pain, resulting in an improvement in the function of patients with fracture. The use of WP provides benefits to this population and the objective of this study is to demonstrate the effects of WP on upper extremity fractures. This is a review of integrative literature conducted in the second half of 2020, which included studies published between 2015 to september 2020. Included in the methodology were those that presented the use of WP as an experiment, productions by health professionals in areas related to physiotherapy and excluded literature reviews or articles that did not use WP in treatment, resulting in 5 articles analyzed. It was concluded that the use of WP in upper extremity fractures has benefits in terms of range of motion, muscle tension, pain and edema.
