Monografia Acesso embargado Comparação das características físico-funcionais de cadeirantes praticantes de basquete e cadeirantes não esportistas(2020) Bergmann, EduardaIntroduction: Currently, 23.9% of the Brazilian population has some type of disability, and more than 13 million people have motor disabilities. And, admittedly, higher levels of physical fitness, help in the prevention of comorbidities, help in social interaction and in new perspectives of rehabilitation. Objective: To analyze the physical-functional characteristics of wheelchair basketball players and non-sports wheelchair users. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional, analytical, quantitative study. The population was composed of wheelchair users practicing basketball from AFLODEF and non-sports wheelchair users from the waiting list for Physiotherapy at the Universidade do Sul de Santa Catarina, Campus Tubarão-SC, the participants were male between the ages of 18 and 60 years. Handgrip strength was assessed using dynamometry and aerobic capacity using the Franklin protocol. Results: 16 wheelchair users, 8 sportsmen and 8 non-sportsmen were evaluated, the median age was 43.0 years in the athlete group and 33.5 years in the non-sportsmen group. In relation to FPM, the median was 50.00 Kgf in the athlete group and 40.5 Kgf in the non-sports group. VO2 max values were found to be 28.6 ml / kg / min in the athlete group and 6.4 ml / kg / min in the non-sports group. There was no statistical difference in relation to HGS (p = 0.279), however, in the analysis of maximum Vo2, higher values were identified in the sports group when compared to the non-sports group (p <0.001), correlating that the practice of physical exercise increases aerobic capacity in the wheelchair population. Conclusion: A greater cardiorespiratory condition was identified in the athletes group compared to the non-sports group, however, with no statistical difference in HGS.
