Monografia Acesso aberto Unum ovile et unus pastor: o poder do papado, de Inocêncio III (1198-1216), no IV Concílio de Latrão (1215)(2017) Costa, André ArthurThe papacy had a prominent role in the Catholic Church and feudal european society of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, having at that time reached the pinnacle of its political power. One of the central instruments for the expansion and legitimation of this power was the regional and ecumenical councils organized by the popes and their allies, of which the Fourth Lateran Council of 1215 is especially important. So, the theme for this monograph is: the legitimacy of papal power, by the Pope Innocent III, at the Fourth Lateran Council. And in order to corroborate with the nature of the proposed theme and to motivate the investigation, the following question was raised: how did the Fourth Lateran contribute to the legitimacy of papal power about the society of its time? To solve our problem, we proposed as objectives the development of concepts formulated by the “new history” and pertinent to the study, as well as the description of the medieval mentality, the operation of the society in twelfth and thirteenth centuries, the description of the figure of Pope Innocent III (1198-1216) as the articulator of the Fourth Lateran, and finally, the exposition of the power relations at the Council, especially the legitimation of the papacy. To investigate this situation, we used a bibliographical research, of a deductive and qualitative approach.
