Muscular strength is the physical capacity that must receive attention, as in years passed, the loss of bone and muscle mass occurs rapidly causing irreparable consequences. Resistance training plan should seek to minimize these losses and improve the daily activities of this age group. Therefore, we sought to understand the consequences of aging on this age group and identify benefits that weight training brings to seniors. We conducted the study through a literature review. Weight training provides numerous benefits to the elderly, as a gain in muscle mass and metabolism, reduce body fat, increase muscle strength, maintenance and improvement in joint mobility, increased bone mineral density and reduction in risk factors cardiovascular diseases. The action of physical exercise daily in the elderly improves their living conditions and daily activities. Most research agrees that with the application of systematic physical exercise programs improves quality of life in various tasks and activities. Contribute efficiently in functional independence.
