Artigo Científico Acesso aberto Dosagem dos níveis de lactato e glicose séricos em pacientes classificados como urgência ou emergência atendidos no HVU(2017) Lima, Monique RossoThe aim of the study was to evaluate serum lactate and glucose values and to compare them with the prognosis of the animals. Fifteen samples of canines were analyzed in an emergency or emergency state attended at Unisul Veterinary Hospital. Four blood samples were collected at four different times. The first was performed after stabilization the animal, the second six hours after the procedure was surgical or only therapeutic, the third twelve hours and 24 hours after the procedure performed on the animal. The animals were divided into two groups: group 1 (adults) aged up to seven years old, 33.33% (5/15) and group 2 (elderly) aged over seven years, 66.66% (10 / 15). The glucose values remained within the reference values in group 1 and group 2, except for the collection of 24 hours in group 1, where hypoglycemia was present. The value of lactate for group 1 showed hyperlactatemia only in the pre-collection, while still had the condition, but normalized in the others. In group 2, hyperlactatemia remained light (2.5 to 4.0 mmol / L) during all collections. All animals survived the first 24 hours, which is 100%, suggesting that lactate interpretation alone is not a good prognostic marker.Relatório de Estágio Acesso aberto Relatório de estágio curricular supervisionado na área de patologia clínica veterinária(2017) Lopes, Caroline de SousaThe obligatory curricular traineeship was carried out in the veterinary medicine area, clinical pathology subarea, in the Veterinary Clinical Laboratory of FMVZ/Unesp/Botucatu Veteri-nary Hospital, from March 6 to May 19, 2017, totaling 436 hours under the supervision of the Professor Dr. Regina Kiomi Takahira. This internship was taught by Professor Nicole R. Ca-pacchi Hlavac, professor of veterinary medicine at the University of Southern Santa Catarina - Unisul, Tubarão campus. At the internship, activities were carried out in the veterinary clinical laboratory, where routine activities were performed in hematology, hemostasis, cavity fluid analysis, biochemistry, blood bank and co-collection of biological samples. In addition, clinical cases on primary IMT, AHIM and secondary IMT were presented monthly and still; A seminar with the theme: "Exclusion factors of felines candidates for blood donors at the Veterinary Hospital of Unisul", at the end of the training. The report describes in detail all the activities carried out during the internship, the description of the place and three clinical cases followed during the internship period. The cases reported are: AHIM, TIM and Diabete Meli-to; And in the reports emphasis was placed on the laboratory diagnosis of pathologies. The follow-up of the routine in the sector allows to consolidate the theoretical knowledge, apply-ing the practice, and with this, prepares the academic for the professional life.Artigo Científico Acesso fechado Ocorrência de cães obesos atendidos no Hospital Veterinário UNISUL no periodo de abril de 2016 até abril de 2017(2017) Sena, Liriana FurtunatoObesity is characterized by a nutritional disease due to the excess of adipose tissue, in comparison with the normal performance of the body functions. Diagnostic methods should be fast, safe and economically feasible, so weight, canine body mass index (BMI) and canine body scoring (ECC) are more commonly employed. The aim of this study was to classify the body condition of the dogs treated at Unisul Veterinary Hospital (HVU), in Tubarão (Brazil), from April 2016 until April 2017; also evaluate the weight and height in order to calculate the IMCC and evaluate the ECC. A total of 61 canine animals treated in the HVU clinic sector submitted to the consultation or referred for examination were selected. Later, the mean weight was obtained, as well as the height for the calculation of the IMCC and, finally, the ECC was evaluated by palpation of the ribs, lumbar and sacral vertebrae. It was possible to observe that 54% of the population evaluated was above of the ideal weight. Females older than 8 years had greater overweight or obesity totaling 79%, and overweight was more frequent in castrated dogs (58%). Due to the increase in canine obesity, it is important to obtain a diagnosis, promoting good animal healthMonografia Acesso fechado Dosagem dos níveis séricos de lactato e glicose correlacionados com o prognóstico de caninos atendidos no HVU em estado de urgência e emergência(2017) Amaral, Carolina da Silveira doThe urgency and emergency system stands out as a particularly important and complex service that needs a quick and accurate approach. The measurement of lactate and serum glucose in these patients becomes extremely important, since their increased and decreased levels, respectively, may be related to a higher mortality rate due to metabolic changes. As in human medicine lactate is already used as a way of differentiating the severity of certain pathological conditions, the realization of several lactate measurements can assist the veterinarian in the screening of this patient as well as contribute to the prognosis. The present study measured the serum lactate and glucose concentrations of canine patients who arrived in a state of emergency and emergency at Unisul Veterinary Hospital, obtaining subsidies for the prognostic aid of these animals. Four collections were performed, the first one after stabilization of the patient the second six hours after this stabilization, the third twelve hours after and the fourth 24 hours after stabilization. A total of 19 canines were divided into two groups: group 1 (adults) aged up to eight years, 42.10% (8/19) and group 2 (elderly) aged over eight years, 57, 89% (11/19). The behavior of serum lactate concentrations in group 1 (adults) in relation to group 2 (elderly) showed that lactate is a good prognostic marker because in 100% of the animals there was survival within 24 hours, but its interpretation should not be done in isolation, but in conjunction with the clinical parameters (heart rate, respiratory rate, capillary fill time, rectal temperature and mucosal staining).Artigo Científico Acesso aberto Estudo retrospectivo dos cães traumatizados atendidos no HVU com trauma torácico no período de maio de 2014 a agosto de 2017(2017) Schiefler, Otávio Henrique de MeloThis study aimed to perform a retrospective survey of traumatized dogs with a history of thoracic trauma, attended at the Unisul Veterinary Hospital (HVU), Tubarão / SC, from May 2014 to August 2017. A total of 19 The cases of dogs victims of thoracic trauma through the analysis of the clinical and surgical records contained in the HVU database, having as the main cause of the affection the automobile accident (57.89%). Subsequently, the cases were classified according to the total number of complications, a complication and multiple complications, such as frequency analysis, quality of life, improved quality of life (47.36%), followed by pneumothorax (36.84% ) and rib fracture (31.57%). Regarding the number of complications, equality was identified in both groups, both presenting the same number of cases (47.36%). Thus, the cases were reorganized again into two groups, however, using as a comparative the most frequent etiology (automobile accident) and other etiologies with the total number of complications, in which there was also equality in relation to the number of cases. In addition, other data were similar, such as the survival index in relation to the main etiology responsible for thoracic trauma, with a survival rate of 72.73%. The cadastral data of race, gender, weight and age were categorized and traced in the characteristic profile of the non HVU type, with SRD dogs, males, small and aged between 1 and 5 years (74%). The vital parameters of heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature and mucosal staining were analyzed, however, due to lack of data, a correlation does not match the actual results. Finally, we verified the type of treatment required to solve the problem, clinical or surgical, such as case resolution, prognosis or patient and high definition and unfavorable prognosis of the patient died.Artigo Científico Acesso fechado Estudo retrospectivo de riscos anestésicos em procedimentos cirúrgicos de cães e gatos(2017) Felisbino, Aléx MunizThe present study has as purpose report the patients profile and their ASA (American Society of Anesthesiologists) classification in anesthesic procedures at Hospital Veterinário Unisul (HVU) in the period of 2016 to 2017, besides to also report the mortality ratio. Therefore, a retrospective study was executed using anesthesic files of HVU and classification was made by spice, gender, age group and the anatomic system and region submitted to surgery. It was analyzed 188 files, being 148 dogs (78,72%) and 40 cats (21,28%), which were subject to general transoperatory anesthesia. These animals were subdivide in two groups by their ASA classification, being 124/188 (65,9%) healthy animals (ASA 1 and 2), and 64/188 (34,1%) sick animals (ASA 3, 4 and 5). The total number of deaths reported during this period was 3 (1,59%), being 2 (1,35%) dogs and 1 (2,5%) cat, all them belonging the sick animals group.Monografia Acesso embargado Efeito da curcumina sobre os marcadores de estresse oxidativo em cães com osteoartrite(2017) Adam, AlexandraOsteoarthritis is a chronic, progressive and degenerative disease, driven by inflammation, that commonly affects dogs. There is no cure, largely due to the fact that, at present, there are not any effective therapeutic agents for repairing joint integrity. It is clinically characterized by lameness, functional disabilities, crepitus, joint stiffness, muscle atrophy and pain. Nonetheless, early findings suggest that curcumin has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, among many others, making it a promising agent for osteoarthritis treatment therapy, thereby reducing the inflammation and suppressing the level of reactive oxygen species - which, at elevated rates, can mediate and produce harmful effects on cells, causing damage to membranes, cytoplasm and, further, to the deoxyribonucleic acid. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the curcumin’s effect on markers of lipid oxidative damage. This study was performed at the Unisul Veterinary Hospital, involving 4 large dogs (three females and one male, all older than 9 years), diagnosed with osteoarthritis secondary to hip dysplasia, which were treated for ten days after inclusion. The experiment conduction was uniform, and the treatment consisted of ten consecutive once-daily oral combined administration of chondroprotectives agents (chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine) and curcumin as adjuvant. Blood was collected before and after the treatment, in order to perform the analysis of the oxidative damage to lipids, and determine hematological parameters, with liver and renal function profiles. The adopted measure of evidence (p-value) was greater than the significance level defined for this study (α = 0.05), although there was a reduction in the oxidative damage in 75% of sample members, which can be attributed to the curcumin’s antioxidant effect on chondrocytes and cytokines. Due to the limitations of this study, especially those related to the constrained time to complete the research, no greater reduction of lipid damage could be observed. Nevertheless, the findings of this study revealed a positive effect of curcumin on markers of oxidative stress, as well as an improvement of hematological (mainly leukocyte-related) parameters.Relatório de Estágio Acesso aberto Relatório de estágio curricular supervisionado em medicina veterinária: clínica e cirurgia de pequenos animais(2017) Külkamp, Emily TrevisolThis report describes the activities carried out during the supervised compulsory curricular internship, held between July 31 and October 27 at the Lutheran University of Brazil - ULBRA - Canoas campus, totaling 360 hours of activities in the clinical, surgical, diagnostic, by image and internment, supervised by professor Simone Thomé and guided by professor and teacher Sérgio Santalucia Ramos da Silva. The objective of this study was to report the compulsory traineeship unit, as well as its infrastructure, activities developed and the casuistry of the place. Also included in this report were two clinical-surgical cases and a clinical case that were followed at the site during the period of permanence, with literature review, such as Pulmonary Lobectomy in dogs, Dog Tracheorrhaphy and Secondary Renal Hyperparathyroidism in dogs. The curricular internship is a great opportunity for students to complement undergraduate education, constituting an instrument of technical-scientific improvement, practical training, human and professional relationship.Artigo Científico Acesso fechado Identificação de carrapatos e RGB de imagens obtidas de diferentes áreas topográficas de bovinos leiteiros da raça Jersey(2017) Machado, Patrícia MartinsThe present study aims to determine the species of ticks and the amount of samples obtained in the different regions of the body of dairy cattle of the South of Santa Catarina. The population consisted of 20 cattle from three properties located in different municipalities. To begin the procedure of the bovine body were imaginarily divided into 07 topographic regions. Subsequently, the ticks sighted in the animals were collected in the period between March and May of 2017, placed in flasks containing alcohol 70 ° Gl and labeled according to body areas of each animal, still a field. Soon after, the specimens were transported to the parasitology laboratory for counting and identification. The species identified was the Riphicephalus (Boophilus) microplus concentrate 37,38% in the posterior limb. As for the RGB of the images, the intense tonalities are in the region of ribs, flank and cervical and the variations of light gray predominated in the regions of tail and croup, thoracic member and pelvic limb. It observed circulating only the Riphicephalus (Boophilus) microplus, with high infestation in the caudal quadrant of the animal body, mainly in the pelvic limbs, not having a predilection for areas with low RGB.Monografia Acesso embargado Descrição do monitoramento da contenção química de Cerdocyon thous (Linnaues, 1766), E Lycalopex vetulus (Lund, 1842), de vida livre no Cerrado brasileiro(2017) Mateus, Raiane NunesEvaluated data from 26 animals of the species Cerdocyon thous (10) and Lycalopex vetulus (16) were captured and chemically immobilization with tiletamine-zolazepam in the Serra da Canastra National Park area from 2004 to 2011. The animals showed similar results of heart rates, respiratory rate and temperature (p> 0.10). Cerdocyon thous presented higher weight compared to Lycalopex vetulus (p<0.01), and higher anesthetic dose for Cerdocyon thous. Cerdocyon thous presented an average of 171.33 mg/dL (± 9.51), Lycalopex vetulus averaged 134.54 (± 6.5) mg/dL (p <0,10) of serum glucose levels. During the physical examination, presence of podal and eyelid reflex; muscle relaxation in most animals, and few cases of both species presented sialorrhea. Repiratory pattern predominant was costoabdominal; and most of the animals presented themselves calmly inside the cage. The objective of this article is to describe and compare the physiological parameters of Cerdocyon thous and Lycalopex vetulus during chemical immobilization.Artigo Científico Acesso aberto Dosagem dos níveis de lactato e glicose séricos em pacientes caninos classificados como urgência SOU emergência atendidos no HVU(2017) Lima, Monique RossoThe aim of the study was to evaluate serum lactate and glucose values and to compare them with the prognosis of the animals. These NM rarely affect the males, presenting incidence of 0 to 2.7%, however, once present, is highly malignant. The microscopic analysis of the tissues is a very important tool in the diagnosis of this condition, allows a detailed investigation and covers the cellular particularities until the tissue architecture. Cytopathological and histopathological analyzes are used for this purpose. The present study had as objective to make a comparative analysis between the cytopathological and histopathological diagnoses, to evaluate the degree of agreement of the same ones, in bitches attended with mammary neoplasias at the Hospital Veterinário Unisul from August 2016 to September 2017. cases of bitches who underwent cytopathological examination and histopathological examination. Of these 06 cases, 17% (1/6) presented a concordant diagnosis and 83% (5/6) did not agree. Although the number of samples is reduced, this study confirms that the cytopathologic technique should not be used as the only diagnostic medium, and the histopathological analysis should be performed to obtain the definitive diagnosis.Monografia Acesso aberto Avaliação clínica de cães com osteoartrite secundária a displasia coxofemoral tratados com curcumina como aduvante terapeutico(2017) Silva, Helaine Claudino daNowadays, in Brazil, the dog population has been growing and their life expectancy is rising as a result of the care given by their owners, who are more and more conscious, and seek to properly diagnose and medicate their animals. As dog’s population gets older, the frequency of osteoarthritis (OA), which is a chronic degenerative disease, will increase. This illness causes pain, discomfort and, therefore, progressive loss of mobility, affecting thedog’s quality of life and its relationship with the owner.Ordinary treatments to control inflammation cause adverse reactions, which are harmful to the dog's health. The administration of nutraceuticals such as curcumin, endowed with analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties already proven by scientific research, is suggested as a safer alternative to be used in long-term treatments. The scientific knowledge of the curcumin’s clinical benefits may represent new treatment options, which is a very strong argument for conducting further research that presents alternative methods to manage pain in dogs afflicted by OA.Monografia Acesso embargado Ocorrência de artrite em carcaças de frango de corte abatidos em um abatedouro-frigorífico localizado na mesorregião de Criciúma entre setembro de 2016 a agosto de 2017(2017) Pinho, Ramon ChitesBrazilian poultry farming is constantly under development due to investments in infrastructure, genetics, sanitation and management, thus achieving high levels of productivity, consecrated in this way as the second largest producer of broilers in the world. Among the factors that make the country's poultry a reference worldwide, the inspection of products of animal origin promoted by government agencies demonstrates success in providing a higher quality and safety for the consumers, since errors in the industrial handling of the carcasses and diverse illnesses become responsible for total and partial condemnations. This retrospective study aimed to verify the frequency of partial condemnation of carcasses of broilers affected by arthritis in a slaughterhouse located in the mesoregion of Criciúma in the south of the State of Santa Catarina, where data from the period between September 2016 and August 2017, 1.564.866 broilers were slaughtered, of these 260.509 were convicted with some type of irregularity in the inspection, and of these carcasses, 1321 presented lesions characteristic of arthritis, corresponding to 0,5% of all condemnations in the studied period.Monografia Acesso aberto Estudo retrospectivo de cães atendidos no HVU com trauma abdominal no período de abril de 2014 de junho de 2017(2017) Scremin, Rafaela Dal PazAbdominal trauma presents an increasingly frequent occurrence in the clinical-surgical routine, being the severity determined depending on the injured organs. This study aimed to report the profile of patients seen in HVU with abdominal trauma referred for surgery, from April 2014 to June 2017. Data collection of HVU clinical and surgical files was carried out, drawing a population profile, etiology, and complications. The results of 12 dog cases were studied, with predominance of male dogs, with a mean age of 5 (five) years, SRD and small size. The vital parameters such as HR, RR and CT did not change, already in relation to mucosal staining, most of the dogs had hypocorate mucosa. Only two dogs had multiple complications, but there was no influence on prognosis, and all dogs with TS were submitted to surgery and discharged after surgery, characterizing the favorable prognosis.Artigo Científico Acesso aberto Levantamento de dados dos cães com displasia coxofemoral atendidos no Hospital Veterinário UNISUL no período de setembro de 2014 a abril de 2017(2017) Pamato, Ana Carolina LisboaOsteoarthritis (OA) or degenerative joint disease (DAD) is a pathology characterized by altered balance of joint cartilage synthesis and degradation and may be caused by mechanical and / or biological events. One of the main articular pathologies that leads to the development of OA is hip dysplasia (HD), which is a non-traumatic orthopedic pathology, characterized by inadequate development of the hip joint and has different forms of treatment, being conservative, Such as NSAIDs, analgesics and nutraceuticals, alternative as acupuncture and physiotherapy and surgical treatment, which has several palliative techniques. The present study aimed to collect information on the cases of HD dogs treated at the Unisul Veterinary Hospital (HVU), in order to better classify the patients' profile and standardize treatment. Sixteen records were analyzed, classifying the animals in size, obtaining 2 (12.5%) small animals, 2 (12.5%) medium and 12 (75%) large animals. When the age group was evaluated, 5 (31.25%) pups, 3 (18.75%) young, 2 (12.5%) adults and 6 (37.50%) elderly dogs were observed. The number of affected joints was also identified, with 14 (87.5%) animals with bilateral involvement and 2 (12.5%) with unilateral involvement of the coxofemoral joint. The treatment forms were divided in conservative, with 4 (25%) treated animals; Only alternative, 1 (6.25%) patient; Conventional and alternative treatment, 1 (6.25%) patient and 10 (62.5%) medical records did not contain prescription of treatment. It is concluded that the characteristics of HD animals treated in the HVU in this period are large dogs, elderly, with bilateral involvement of the hip joint and treated conservatively.Monografia Acesso embargado Perfil do consumo e percepção da qualidade de carnes entre estudantes de diferentes cursos da UNISUL, Tubarão/SC(2017) Silva, Maraizi daThe present study had as objective to evaluate the consumption profile and the perception of the quality of the main meat species between students of different courses of UNISUL, from Tubarão, Santa Catarina. In the order to make the search, were applied 130 questionnaires composed of questions related to description and identification of consumption profile, as well of questions related to identification of atributes considered most importants by the consumers at the time of purchase of the meat. The most part of students interviewed (68,5%) belongs to women and age range between 17 and 23 years. Among the interviewed, 4,6% declared don’t consume meat, but 95,4% say consume meat at least once a week. The most part has preference for the beef (45%). The appearence was considered the main feature observed at the moment of purchase by 64,6% and the sanitary inspection seal isn’t observed for the most part of students (71,5%). Among the reasons for the not consumption of different carneas species, the taste was the most mentioned. The pig meat was the most mention, being associated with the risks of disease transmission. The students have preference by the consumption of meat in the nature form (89,2%) and just 6,1% have preference to industrialized products.Monografia Acesso embargado Levantamento epidemiológico clínico de fraturas e feridas, em animais silvestres e exóticos, no Hospital Veterinário Unisul, Tubarão-SC, no período de 2013 a 2017(2017) Bernardo, Ariane SilveiraA study of records of the Unisul Veterinary Hospital of all wild and exotic animals files, from 2013 to 2017, in order to evaluate the frequency of fractures and wounds compared to other diseases. During this period, 149 animals were treated, of which 54 presented fractures and/or wounds. The birds represented the majority of the affected animals, with 28 individuals. Most of the individuals were brought by the Environmental Military Police (29), and to a lesser number by private individuals (18). Among the treatments instituted, 20 were clinical and 12 were surgical. This study had as objectives to verify the casuistry of fractures and iwounds in wild animals, as well as their clinical treatment and classes more affected. It was assumed that the greatest cause of trauma was a collision.Monografia Acesso embargado Efeito do peso ao nascimento de leitões sobre o ganho médio diário e peso ao desmame nas variadas ordens de parto(2017) Tenfen, Leandro WarmlingAlthough widely distributed on a national scale, pig production still faces many challenges today. The most crucial of these challenges is the increase of zootechnical data, because of its importance in determining the economic profit of the property, particularly the LEFA* (Piglet Delivered Female Year), that measures the number of piglets sold by the total of animals suitable for production. In order to search a beneficial increase in this data, it is necessary to work in other fronts, including the importance of weight at the time of birth, which directly influences the survival rate, daily average gain and weight during the weaning period. In order to achieve that, 1667 piglets were weighed in two occasions: after birth (before colostrum ingestion) and at 28 days of life. The piglets were divided into three groups according to birth weight: Lightweight Group (LWG) 314 piglets weighing ≤1 kg, Medium Weight Group (IWG) 898 piglets weighing > 1 to ≤ 1,5 kg, Heavyweight Group (HWG) 455 piglets weighing> 1,5 kg. All assisted farrows were induced with at lest 115 days of gestation. Redistribution occurred up to 24 hours’ post-birth due to extreme sizes, both large and small, in relation to other piglets in the original litter, then these were observed in the female in which they were inserted after the distribution. In addition to this data, mortality events were also observed, using sequential numbering through the use of tattoo at the time of weighing upon birth. As a result, we found the best performance (P <0.05) of birth weight, daily average gain and weight during the weaning period from females of second and third deliveries. In the groups of piglet’s evaluation, the Heavyweight Group (HWG) presented greater daily average gain as well as greater weight during the weaning period (p <0.05). The Heavyweight group also showed the lowest mortality rate among the classes (p <0.05). In conclusion, management strategies are necessary in order to improve the performance of females of first lactation, and to increase the selection pressure of females after the fourth farrow. Since piglets with heavy birth weight have shown the best results, increasing the average birth weight is necessary so as to continue improving the production chain.Artigo Científico Acesso fechado Caracterização hematológica baseada na classificação de sepse em cadelas com piometrite submetidas à osh terapêutica no HVU(2017) Kulkamp, Emily TrevisolThe aim of this study was to identify hematological alterations between sepsis and severe sepsis in bitches with pyometritis. A total of 50 records of female patients diagnosed with pyometritis were evaluated at Unisul Veterinary Hospital from 2013 to 2017. Of these, five were excluded from the study because they had preexisting organic dysfunction. The animals were classified as septic when they presented 2 of the 4 SIRS criteria (body temperature <38,1°C or > 39,2°C, heart rate >120bpm, respiratory rate >20mpm and leukometry <6,000/μL and >16,000/μL or more 3% of young neutrophils) added to the infectious focus (piometrite). For the classification of severe sepsis, the presence of organic dysfunction was considered. A t-test with p<0.05 was used to determine the difference between groups. Sepsis was classified as 24 (53%) animals and 16 (36%) as severe sepsis. Five (10%) did not meet SIRS criteria and were classified as non-sepsis. Animals with severe sepsis presented higher results when compared to septic patients in the following parameters: total leukocytes, representing leukocytosis (p <0.05), band neutrophils (p <0.01), toxic neutrophils (p <0.05), decrease of hematocrit, representing anemia (p = 0.005) and decreased platelet count, representing platelet count (p = 0.01). The parameters of segmented neutrophils, monocytes, RDW and PDW showed no significant difference. Data analysis showed that animals with severe sepsis have more severe hematological changes than animals with sepsis. The hemogram is a practical and inexpensive tool, indispensable for the diagnosis of these patients. The adapted table proved to be efficient for the classification of sepsis. The results also suggest that pyometritis can be used as a animal model for clinical studies in sepsis.
