Monografia Acesso aberto Avaliação clínica de cães com osteoartrite secundária a displasia coxofemoral tratados com curcumina como aduvante terapeutico(2017) Silva, Helaine Claudino daNowadays, in Brazil, the dog population has been growing and their life expectancy is rising as a result of the care given by their owners, who are more and more conscious, and seek to properly diagnose and medicate their animals. As dog’s population gets older, the frequency of osteoarthritis (OA), which is a chronic degenerative disease, will increase. This illness causes pain, discomfort and, therefore, progressive loss of mobility, affecting thedog’s quality of life and its relationship with the owner.Ordinary treatments to control inflammation cause adverse reactions, which are harmful to the dog's health. The administration of nutraceuticals such as curcumin, endowed with analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties already proven by scientific research, is suggested as a safer alternative to be used in long-term treatments. The scientific knowledge of the curcumin’s clinical benefits may represent new treatment options, which is a very strong argument for conducting further research that presents alternative methods to manage pain in dogs afflicted by OA.Monografia Acesso embargado Avaliação da evolução pós-cirúrgica de cães submetidos ao procedimento de artroplastia excecional de cabeça e colo femoral no Hospital Veterinário Unisul (HVU)(2019) Menegali, MatheusThe objective of this study was to perform a postoperative evalution of the dogs that underwent the producer of femoral head and neck excision, evaluation of the owners. By analyzing the surgical files contained in the HVU database. 12 owners were contacted and answered the questionnaire. Six male and six female animals. The main condition responsible for the ned for surger was the coxofemoral joint luxation 33,3%. In the questionnaire the owners answered 0 (better evolution) to 4 (worse evolution), relative to evolution each question that they were: walking, running, jumping, walk on inclined plane, getting up (when lying down), to lick, lift over member pelvic and play. The total mean of these ratings was 0.8. half of the patients (50%) had less than 8 pounds six in breed set, two pinschers a poodle, an akita, a chow chow and lhasa apso. The owners were questioned about physicaltherapy or acupuncture, in one case they were performed. Six of these ownersmade comments, three tutors commented that their animals were very well, one commented that the animal fidgets when walking, one commented that the animal is with the member raised when it is in season, and one owner commented that the animal lost limb sensitivity. Monografia Acesso embargado Avaliação de cicatrização de feridas cirúrgicas após mastectomia em cadelas com uso de óleo de copaíba(2018) Laurindo, Victor EliasCurrently the use of herbal medicines for wound treatment is widely used, and the application of them occurs from the beginnings of mankind. The Brazilian flora has a powerful arsenal that is often studied to find new treatment options, among these research, copaiba oil stands out in the process of wound healing. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of copaiba oil on wound healing in bitches submitted to total unilateral mastectomy. The division of two groups was performed to observe efficacy in the treatment, being the evaluator and the tutor blind to this one. Three bitches were studied in group one (n: 2), surgical wound treatment with 10% copaíba oil was performed once a day for 14 days. In group two (control; n: 1), the wound treatment was performed only with the vehicle of the compound, for the same period of time. Wounds were evaluated macroscopically in the presence of exudate, edema, skin integrity, dot dehiscence, cicatricle fibrosis and necrosis, which were photographed at three different times (days 1, 7 and 14). Although the number of animals in the present study is small, when evaluated individually, patients treated with copaiba oil showed a slight improvement in healing parameters, mainly regarding skin integrity.Monografia Acesso embargado Avaliação de pH cutâneo de cães da raça Shih Tzu com dermatite atópica(2018) Joly, Germana SlomskiCanine atopic dermatitis (CAD) is an inflammatory dermatosis that leads to a de-ficiency in the skin barrier making it prone to pruritus and secondary infections. Increased cutaneous pH contributes to epithelial inflammation, enhancing changes in CAD. The purpose of this study is to measure the values of cutaneous pH at 18 different anatomic areas of the dog breed Shih Tzu diagnosed with CAD. During the study, 24 dogs were evaluated, 14 fe-males and 10 males. The selected dogs ranged between 1 and 10 years. Portable skin pH-meter was used as a tool to determine the pH value. The following parameters were evaluated: different body parts of females, males, castrated/intact. The comparative analysis of the body parts of females and males presented alkaline mean result for both groups in the perioral region with pH of 7.18 in females and 7.69 in males, that presented significantly differing statistics (p<0.0001). In the evaluation of the parameters female versus male and castrated versus intact, there were no statistical difference (p> 0.9999). In the comparison between castrated and in-tact body parts, the highest values were likewise found in the perioral region, with significant-ly differing statistics (p<0.0001) with a mean pH of 7.38 in the castrated and 7.43 in the in-tact. Nonetheless in this study not all anatomic regions evaluated presented alkaline pH values with no significantly differing statistics in dogs with CAD. Due to the complexity of the syn-drome and that several other associated factors could influence the etiopathogeny of the dis-ease, further investigation and studies on this subject are necessary. Monografia Acesso embargado Avaliação histológica de neoplasias mamárias induzidas por DMBA em camundongos SWISS sujeitos à dieta hiperlipídica e tratados com inibidor de COX-2(2019) Vieira, Thaynan CunhaThe present study has as objective to report through a scientific article the comparison of two references to classify DMBA-induced breast tumors in female Swiss mice, as well as to evaluate and correlate the tissue inflammation in these tumors of mice subjected to a high fat diet (DH) and treatment with etoricoxib. In this work, breast cancer and animal models were reviewed, as well as the role of the lipid-rich diet and tissue inflammation in the neoplastic context. 52 tumors induced by DMBA in mice were histologically classified. Subsequently, only those of mammary origin were analyzed for inflammatory infiltrate and angiogenesis. 22/52 (42.31%) tumors of mammary origin were observed. From these, it was possible to classify 2 histological types according to Sass and Dunn, whereas according to Cassali, 7 types were obtained, and Adenoacantoma and Micropapillary Carcinoma were the most frequent type, respectively. Among the carcinomas, there were 3 more aggressive types, present significantly more frequently in the DH groups, and there was no difference in the group treated with etoricoxib. Likewise, there was a slight increase in the intensity of inflammatory infiltrate and number of blood vessels in the DH groups. Therefore, it is concluded that DMBA did not induce mammary tumors in the majority, and the histological classification of Cassali was more detailed. Although treatment with Etoricoxib did not decrease inflammation, the DH was able to induce a greater degree of tumor malignancy.Monografia Acesso aberto Comparação dos parâmetros fisiológicos no período transanestésico de cães submetidos à anestesia inalatória ou intravenosa total em procedimentos eletivos(2019) Carmo, Beatriz LinheiraAnesthesia is a very important part of any surgical procedure, mainly due to the advancement of veterinary medicine and increased routine procedures. The objective of this study was to determine the method of anesthesia, inhalation or intravenous maintenance, changes less the physiological parameters of dogs submitted to ovariohysterectomy procedure. The results were obtained through the analysis of eight registration forms, four of these patients undergoing inhalation anesthesia with isoflurane and the others four patients were undergoing total intravenous anesthesia with propofol and REMIFLK. The parameters compared were heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature and oximetry. The heart rate and oximetry didn’t present significant difference between the groups or between the times in relation to the group itself. Reduction of respiratory rate was observed among patients in the intravenous anesthesia group over time, without any significant difference between groups. In both groups was possible to observe a decrease of temperature in relation to the procedure time. In the total intravenous anesthesia group, of 4 patients, 1 needed assisted breathing and 1 required analgesic rescue. Of the 4 patients undergoing inhalation anesthesia, 2 required analgesic rescue, 1 presented apnea after induction and 1 needed assisted breathing throughout all the procedure and analgesic rescue. Was concluded that any of the technique keep the basal parameters, however, with the continuous infusion of propofol and REMIFLK, it was possible to observe balance and avoid some undesirable effects. As well as the need to increase analgesia in patients undergoing inhalation anesthesia.Monografia Acesso embargado Descrição do monitoramento da contenção química de Cerdocyon thous (Linnaues, 1766), E Lycalopex vetulus (Lund, 1842), de vida livre no Cerrado brasileiro(2017) Mateus, Raiane NunesEvaluated data from 26 animals of the species Cerdocyon thous (10) and Lycalopex vetulus (16) were captured and chemically immobilization with tiletamine-zolazepam in the Serra da Canastra National Park area from 2004 to 2011. The animals showed similar results of heart rates, respiratory rate and temperature (p> 0.10). Cerdocyon thous presented higher weight compared to Lycalopex vetulus (p<0.01), and higher anesthetic dose for Cerdocyon thous. Cerdocyon thous presented an average of 171.33 mg/dL (± 9.51), Lycalopex vetulus averaged 134.54 (± 6.5) mg/dL (p <0,10) of serum glucose levels. During the physical examination, presence of podal and eyelid reflex; muscle relaxation in most animals, and few cases of both species presented sialorrhea. Repiratory pattern predominant was costoabdominal; and most of the animals presented themselves calmly inside the cage. The objective of this article is to describe and compare the physiological parameters of Cerdocyon thous and Lycalopex vetulus during chemical immobilization. The measurement of lactate and serum glucose in these patients becomes extremely important, since their increased and decreased levels, respectively, may be related to a higher mortality rate due to metabolic changes. As in human medicine lactate is already used as a way of differentiating the severity of certain pathological conditions, the realization of several lactate measurements can assist the veterinarian in the screening of this patient as well as contribute to the prognosis. The present study measured the serum lactate and glucose concentrations of canine patients who arrived in a state of emergency and emergency at Unisul Veterinary Hospital, obtaining subsidies for the prognostic aid of these animals. Four collections were performed, the first one after stabilization of the patient the second six hours after this stabilization, the third twelve hours after and the fourth 24 hours after stabilization. A total of 19 canines were divided into two groups: group 1 (adults) aged up to eight years, 42.10% (8/19) and group 2 (elderly) aged over eight years, 57, 89% (11/19). The behavior of serum lactate concentrations in group 1 (adults) in relation to group 2 (elderly) showed that lactate is a good prognostic marker because in 100% of the animals there was survival within 24 hours, but its interpretation should not be done in isolation, but in conjunction with the clinical parameters (heart rate, respiratory rate, capillary fill time, rectal temperature and mucosal staining).Monografia Acesso aberto Efeito da Boswellia Serrata sobre marcador de estresse oxidativo e avaliação clínica em cães com osteoartrite(2019) Koeche, Victoria RodriguesThis study has the goal to analyze the efficacy of Boswellia serrata both in the clinical evaluation and in the marker of oxidative stress to lipids. A double blind study was conducted at Unisul Veterinary Hospital, with the participation of 3 large dogs (three females, all over 12 months old), diagnosed with osteoarthritis secondary to hip dysplasia, evaluated during seven days, in which dog 1 and 2 were control group, and dog 3 was the animal treated with Boswellia serrata. Treatment consisted of chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine chondroproteins in combination with the adjuvant Boswellia serrata for 7 days, in addition to the administration of meloxicam for 5 days. Regarding the analysis of the lipid oxidative stress marker, the analysis of significance due to short term treatment and small numbers of animals were not effective. However, when the clinical evaluation was performed, improvement was observed in dog 3 that used Boswellia serrata as a therapeutic adjuvantMonografia Acesso embargado Efeito da curcumina sobre os marcadores de estresse oxidativo em cães com osteoartrite(2017) Adam, AlexandraOsteoarthritis is a chronic, progressive and degenerative disease, driven by inflammation, that commonly affects dogs. There is no cure, largely due to the fact that, at present, there are not any effective therapeutic agents for repairing joint integrity. It is clinically characterized by lameness, functional disabilities, crepitus, joint stiffness, muscle atrophy and pain. Nonetheless, early findings suggest that curcumin has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, among many others, making it a promising agent for osteoarthritis treatment therapy, thereby reducing the inflammation and suppressing the level of reactive oxygen species - which, at elevated rates, can mediate and produce harmful effects on cells, causing damage to membranes, cytoplasm and, further, to the deoxyribonucleic acid. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the curcumin’s effect on markers of lipid oxidative damage. This study was performed at the Unisul Veterinary Hospital, involving 4 large dogs (three females and one male, all older than 9 years), diagnosed with osteoarthritis secondary to hip dysplasia, which were treated for ten days after inclusion. The experiment conduction was uniform, and the treatment consisted of ten consecutive once-daily oral combined administration of chondroprotectives agents (chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine) and curcumin as adjuvant. Blood was collected before and after the treatment, in order to perform the analysis of the oxidative damage to lipids, and determine hematological parameters, with liver and renal function profiles. The adopted measure of evidence (p-value) was greater than the significance level defined for this study (α = 0.05), although there was a reduction in the oxidative damage in 75% of sample members, which can be attributed to the curcumin’s antioxidant effect on chondrocytes and cytokines. Due to the limitations of this study, especially those related to the constrained time to complete the research, no greater reduction of lipid damage could be observed. Nevertheless, the findings of this study revealed a positive effect of curcumin on markers of oxidative stress, as well as an improvement of hematological (mainly leukocyte-related) parameters.Monografia Acesso embargado Efeito do peso ao nascimento de leitões sobre o ganho médio diário e peso ao desmame nas variadas ordens de parto(2017) Tenfen, Leandro WarmlingAlthough widely distributed on a national scale, pig production still faces many challenges today. The most crucial of these challenges is the increase of zootechnical data, because of its importance in determining the economic profit of the property, particularly the LEFA* (Piglet Delivered Female Year), that measures the number of piglets sold by the total of animals suitable for production. In order to search a beneficial increase in this data, it is necessary to work in other fronts, including the importance of weight at the time of birth, which directly influences the survival rate, daily average gain and weight during the weaning period. In order to achieve that, 1667 piglets were weighed in two occasions: after birth (before colostrum ingestion) and at 28 days of life. The piglets were divided into three groups according to birth weight: Lightweight Group (LWG) 314 piglets weighing ≤1 kg, Medium Weight Group (IWG) 898 piglets weighing > 1 to ≤ 1,5 kg, Heavyweight Group (HWG) 455 piglets weighing> 1,5 kg. All assisted farrows were induced with at lest 115 days of gestation. Redistribution occurred up to 24 hours’ post-birth due to extreme sizes, both large and small, in relation to other piglets in the original litter, then these were observed in the female in which they were inserted after the distribution. In addition to this data, mortality events were also observed, using sequential numbering through the use of tattoo at the time of weighing upon birth. As a result, we found the best performance (P <0.05) of birth weight, daily average gain and weight during the weaning period from females of second and third deliveries. In the groups of piglet’s evaluation, the Heavyweight Group (HWG) presented greater daily average gain as well as greater weight during the weaning period (p <0.05). The Heavyweight group also showed the lowest mortality rate among the classes (p <0.05). In conclusion, management strategies are necessary in order to improve the performance of females of first lactation, and to increase the selection pressure of females after the fourth farrow. Since piglets with heavy birth weight have shown the best results, increasing the average birth weight is necessary so as to continue improving the production chain. Monografia Acesso aberto Estudo retrospectivo da incidência de Salmonella spp. em cortes de carne suína nos abatedouros frigoríficos do departamento regional de Tubarão, SC(2018) Thomazi, BiancaCurrently the infection caused by Salmonella is one of the most common and is pointed out as one of the most prevalent among foodborne diseases. This study aimed to evaluate the incidence of Salmonella spp. in pork cuts of establishments with State Inspection Service (SIS), from June 2017 to June 2018. A data collection was performed based on the laboratory reports sent by the laboratories accredited in the aforementioned period. A total of 158 analyzes were evaluated, where 16 reports (10,13%), showed the presence of the pathogen. The meat cuts that were present were: pernil 3.17%, pork without bone cut (1.90%), rib with bone (1.27%), offal shall heart (1.27%), Carré (0.63%), offal shall feet (0.63%), boneless fillet (0.63%) and head (0.63%). The absence of the pathogen was verified in 142 reports that accounted for (89.87%) of the cases.Monografia Acesso embargado Estudo retrospectivo da ocorrência de doenças transmitidas por carrapatos em cães na região da Grande Florianópolis, SC(2019) Orlandi, Júlia MendesSome of the diseases transmitted by ticks are considered hemoparasites, infections caused by bacteria and protozoa that can affect dogs and cats. In Brazil, the main agents of these diseases are Babesia canis, Ehrlichia canis and Anaplasma platys, which can be diagnosed through several methods, including Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), Indirect Immunofluorescence (IFR) and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The following study had the objective of evaluating which hemoparasites transmitted by ticks occur more frequently in dogs of Florianópolis. A total of 532 hemoparasites specific exams were analised, with the breed, sex, age, year and diagnostic verified. Among these 54 cases were positives, representing 10,15% of the total. From them, 10 dogs (18,5%) were positive for Anaplasma spp., 20 (37%) for Babesia spp., 13 (24,1%) for Ehrlichia spp. and 11 (20,4%) for Rangelia spp. With respect to breeds, the prevelence were of mixed breed dogs in all the analyzed parasites. With regard to sex, both presented a prevalence in females, except Rangelia spp. As for the other variables, no predisposition was found in any of the hemoparasites. The results obtained in this study are of great importance for the region, assisting veterinarians with epidemiological information on hemoparasites, especially babesiosis, which was shown to be more frequent. It also emphasizes the importance of choosing the correct diagnostic method as a way to preserve and improve the health prognosis of the animals affected by these diseases.
