Artigo Científico Acesso fechado Frequência do bruxismo da vigília em universitários(2018) Dutra, Gabriella AmorimThe bruxism has origin in the Central Nervous System and can occur in two situations, during the vigil(awake bruxism) or during the sleep (sleep bruxism). The two types of bruxism present different etiologies and should be diagnosed separately. On the awake bruxism, the best approach is to instruct the pacient regarding self-perception actions. Therefore, was developed an app for mobile devices called “No Clenching”, which warns the pacient to notice his parafunction during the day, assisting in its diagnosis and control. The goal of the present study was to evaluate the frequency of the awake bruxism of the type touch of the teeth in young adults. The sample was composed of 125 college students of the Health Sciences areas from the Southern University of Santa Catarina – Grande Florianópolis campus. The methodology was based in the use of the app for mobile devices “No Clenching”. The participants were oriented to program the app to emit the notification questioning about the presence or not of the habit every two hours, during five days and they sent the graphics to the researchers for statistical analysis. The results showed that 34,08% of the students presented events of the type touch of the teeth, being 27,95% at the Dentistry students and 40,11% at the other students. The women presented higher percentage (35,17%) of events than men (24,67%) (p=0,038). There was no difference between the students of start or end of the courses. There was no interconnection between the frequency of the positive events in percentage and the age of the students. It is concluded that 34,08% of the college students present awake bruxism of the type touch of the teeth within five days, being more frequent in the female gender and less frequent in the Dentistry students.
