Artigo Científico Acesso aberto Acolhimento institucional: relação cuidador-criança e o desenvolvimento infantil(2020) Mendes, Aline de SouzaThe institutionalization of children is becoming more and more common therefore the institution becomes a new home for sheltered children, where they tend to create new bonds. Thus, institutional caregivers play a key role in the child care and development process as they are daily in contact with the sheltered children. This study aims to describe the caregiver’s understanding of the implications of the relationship with the children for their development. Two caregivers from a shelter institution located in the Amurel region participated in the research. The instrument for data collection for research was an interview composed of ten semi-structured questions whose answers were analyzed using the content analysis methodology. The results indicate that the caregivers understand their role in the development process to be established in a healthy way, although they have doubts in relation to the appropriate attitudes for that, which is related to the work routines which requires a lot of effective emotional change. They also notice the necessity of training as far as the improvement of technical competence aligned with their psychological preparation to work with this audience. The continuity of studies is considered relevant to research the performance of the role of caregiver and the establishment of a bond with institutional children as well as the mapping of educational social skills performed by caregivers in order to promote their qualification.
