Adolescents are increasingly connected to social networks, especially with the emergence of mobile digital devices. Beyond the devices, there are many stimuli that lead them to belong to the largest group of internet and social network users today. Such issues deserve attention due to the possible impacts on the lives of these users. The present study is a literature review that aimed to investigate possible impacts caused by the excessive use of digital technologies on the mental health of adolescents. It was verified that the abusive use of technologies can cause alterations in the biopsychosocial health of this age group, damages that can be potentiated when risk factors are present. It is possible to verify eating disorders, antisocial behavior, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. The findings highlight the importance of specific monitoring, since internet consumption has increased significantly, for a better understanding of possible impacts on the mental health of the adolescent user, from a biopsychosocial perspective.
