Objective: to know the national scientific production on palliative care and report difficulties encountered for a better practice of palliative care in the intensive care unit. Method: This is an integrative literature review, with a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out using the Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) databases, nursing databases (BDENF), in the search strategies the terms “palliative care” AND “ intensive care units”. Results: The sample consisted of 12 articles. It was found that the predominant area of knowledge in the publications is nursing. Palliative care at the end of the life cycle encompasses measures to improve the quality of life, well-being and comfort of patients in intensive care units, in all dimensions of the individual. Final Considerations: The study allowed reflection on national scientific productions about palliative care in intensive care units, making it possible to infer that small changes and attitudes in the routine of health professionals can significantly influence the comfort and well-being of the patient and family in intensive care units. It is suggested that further studies be carried out on the subject.
