The guiana dolphin (Sotalia guianensis) is a species widely known in Brazil and occurs in coastal waters of South and Central America, generally concentrated in estuaries, bays and protected areas. There are several causes for the stranding of this animal, the most common being human-related causes. The stranding occurred on 08/20/2023 in the municipality of Mata de São João, a hotel complex in Costa do Sauípe, north coast of Bahia, and the cause of death of this young female gray dolphin was caused by the interaction with the stingray spine, which punctured the lung, causing granulomatous pneumonia. This case report seeks to elucidate the study carried out using the necropsy technique and analysis of the organs collected for histopathological examination, since the ray is not part of the gray dolphin's diet, how this interaction occurred, and other pathological changes that resulted in death.
