Gastric Dilatation Volvulus is a serious veterinary medical condition that mainly affects large breed dogs with deep chests. It involves dilation or torsion of the stomach, representing a medical emergency that requires immediate intervention to save the animal's life. This condition has multiple causes and occurs when gases and liquids accumulate in the stomach, causing too much distention, which can expand to the point of gastric torsion. The signs of this condition are distinct, which allows for an accurate diagnosis through clinical and radiographic examinations. Although medical treatment is significant, surgery is usually recommended to correct the problem and prevent future complications. The choice of surgical approach depends on each case. Therefore, treatment and prevention must be carried out as soon as possible to avoid the risk of death.
