Objective: Biscuits are consumed as quick snacks between meals. With the growing concern on health many people are looking for healthier alternative options, one of those alternatives is organic. This study aims to analyze what is in these biscuits that contain the organic seal, making a comparative analysis of the nutritional information and list of ingredients of these products. Method: The study evaluated ten biscuit labels in the 30g portion of five food establishments, located in the city of Canoas, with the criterion of having an organic seal. Results: Calories ranged from 112.5 kcal to 175 kcal. Among macronutrients, carbohydrates ranged from 17 g to 26 g, proteins ranged from 2.1 g to 3.1 g, and lipids ranged from 2.7 g to 6.7 g (saturated 0.3 g to 2.6 g). Micronutrients, fiber ranged from 0.9 g to 3.1 g and sodium ranged from 7.5 mg to 284 mg. The ingredients in total, ranged from 5 to 26 items, the organic ranged from 2 to 10 items and the non-organic ranged from 2 to 19 items. Conclusion: The simple fact of containing the organic seal doesn’t make it healthy, because having the seal doesn’t mean it is 100% organic and it’s also needed to analyze the ingredients and composition of those products. Highlighting the importance of reading and comprehension of the label, to choose the best options of biscuits.
