The concern for safety of life and property is increasingly evident in the modern daily life we live in, and an essential branch of this theme is the prevention and detection of fires, which currently relies on electronic devices for precise and reliable operation, however, the goal, is always to improve and evolve these systems. Therefore, this work presents a study of fire alarm systems regarding their main components, such as detectors, manual call points, sirens, control panels and communication devices, and their methods of application, as well as the current regulations that govern the use of these systems in different types of buildings. Next, a study was conducted on the most commonly used data transmission technologies in wired fire alarm systems, as well as the limitations that can affect the speed of data transmission. Based on this information, a proposal for improving the data transmission rate of an existing system was made and implemented in practice, aiming to reduce the system's response time in case of fire and increase its safety.
