In early 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) defined Covid-19 as a pandemic disease and, since then, several preventive protocols for the spread of the virus have been created, including social isolation, something that, in addition to all the uncertainties surrounding the new world scenario resulted in an increase in psychological suffering and consequently the use of psychoactive substances. In Brazil, the sale of psychotropic drugs increased by 17% in 2020 and 13% in the first five months of 2021 alone, specifically zolpidem, which had the highest growth (113%) in the period from 2019 to 2021. to analyze the increase in the use of zolpidem during the Covid 19 pandemic through a narrative review based on scientific articles and official compendiums. Thus, it was found that the growing demand for zolpidem still brings a greater problem, the indiscriminate use of the drug and several associated problems, making it necessary to implement strategies to ensure the rational use of the substance, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBTs). ), health education courses and the need to reassess the notification of the prescription, since, currently, zolpidem is acquired through prescriptions of type B1 and special control white, which may imply a longer treatment time than indicated .
