This monograph aims to address the main points of parental alienation, ranging from historical aspects to the present day. Parental alienation is a form of psychological abuse in which the child or adolescent is affected, usually caused by people who have custody. This type of situation usually starts after the divorce and separation of a couple, to which the alienating parent uses the child as a weapon to take revenge and hit the alienated parent, planting false memories, attributing untrue facts, hiding information from the minor's life to the alienated parent, preventing the coexistence that is a constitutional guarantee. All these actions generate negative consequences, impacts and permanent sequelae for the child or adolescent throughout life. To combat this recurring practice, Brazilian legislation has a specific law: Law n. 12,318/2010. During the New Coronavirus pandemic, cases of parental alienation have increased significantly, increasingly worrying the authorities.
