Resumo

Strength training for the elderly has proven to be essential for maintaining the health and quality of life of this population. Resistance training, commonly associated with bodybuilding, has significant benefits for the elderly, contributing to improved muscle strength, balance and mobility. Furthermore, recent studies have shown a positive relationship between resistance training and sleep quality in the elderly. Regularly practicing weight training exercises can help reduce insomnia and increase the duration of deep sleep, thus promoting better recovery and general well-being. Therefore, strength training for the elderly not only strengthens the body, but can also contribute significantly to the quality of sleep and, consequently, to the overall health of this population. It aims to answer the following problem: what are the benefits of weight training for the elderly, when related to resistance training and sleep quality? The present work refers to a bibliographic review, which follows the following steps: elaboration of the guiding question; establishment of criteria for inclusion and exclusion of studies and literature search followed by analysis; data collection by defining the information to be extracted from the selected studies/categorization of studies; critical analysis of included studies; and presentation of the integrative review through knowledge synthesis.
