Autism spectrum disorder is marked by a triad consisting of difficulty in verbal and non-verbal communication, repetitive behaviors, and compromised social interaction. Therefore, the objective of this work was to describe how music can positively influence the treatment of children diagnosed with autism. An integrative literature review on the topic was carried out, with an analysis of articles describing the importance of music in the treatment of these children. When carrying out the research, it is concluded that music can be an instrument of great importance if used for therapeutic purposes, but it appears that there is still a lack of empirical works that corroborate the effectiveness of music in treatments. Thus, there is a need for further studies on the subject so that the benefits of music in the treatment of children with autism are better identified and described.
