Monografia Acesso aberto A inter-relação entre respiração bucal e a odontologia: revisão de literatura(2017) Acordi, ThayseBucal breathing syndrome causes changes in various organs and systems, influencing the quality of life of the individual. The objective of this study is to define mouth breathing and to identify, through a literature review, the etiologies and clinical and behavibucal changes related to it. To do so, a bibliographic survey should be carried out with studies published in the database of the virtual platforms PubMed, Scielo, MEDLINE, bireme and Science direct, with inclusion criteria in English and Portuguese. The causes of bucal breathing may be of obstructive and non-obstructive origin, but both may affect the morphofunctional development of the stomatognathic system, as well as the behavior of the individual. The main clinical alterations of bucal respirators are elongated face, inadequate lip sealing and malocclusion. The main behavibucal changes are: irritation, moodiness, anxiety and attention deficit. Diagnosis and early intervention of respiratory changes may prevent future disorders of the craniofacial complex. The bucal respirator approach should be multidisciplinary, through several health professionals, in order to improve the quality of life of mouth breathers.
