Monografia Acesso aberto A inter-relação entre respiração bucal e a odontologia: revisão de literatura(2017) Acordi, ThayseBucal breathing syndrome causes changes in various organs and systems, influencing the quality of life of the individual. The objective of this study is to define mouth breathing and to identify, through a literature review, the etiologies and clinical and behavibucal changes related to it. To do so, a bibliographic survey should be carried out with studies published in the database of the virtual platforms PubMed, Scielo, MEDLINE, bireme and Science direct, with inclusion criteria in English and Portuguese. The causes of bucal breathing may be of obstructive and non-obstructive origin, but both may affect the morphofunctional development of the stomatognathic system, as well as the behavior of the individual. The main clinical alterations of bucal respirators are elongated face, inadequate lip sealing and malocclusion. The main behavibucal changes are: irritation, moodiness, anxiety and attention deficit. Diagnosis and early intervention of respiratory changes may prevent future disorders of the craniofacial complex. The bucal respirator approach should be multidisciplinary, through several health professionals, in order to improve the quality of life of mouth breathers.Artigo Científico Acesso embargado A confiabilidade da radiografia panorâmica na identificação de ateroma de carótida: revisão de literatura(2017) Faustino, Andreara VianaThe soft tissue calcifications affecting the head and neck region can be evidenced in the panoramic radiographs, a routine dental examination. This work consisted in check, through literature review, how reliable panoramics radiographies are when it comes to carotid artery atheroma identification. For that, a bibliography study will be done based on published studies at virtuals platforms as PubMed, Scielo, MEDLINE, Bireme and Sciencedirect, having as inclusion criteries publishings in English, Portuguese as well as Spanish, from 2010 to 2017 and having used the following words: carotid atherosclerosis, panoramic radiography, stroke, calcifications and as exclusion criteries the ones who don’t follow the inclusion ones. We can conclude that panoramic radiography is not a reliable test in the identification of CAC according to this integrative review, however it is sensitive for the diagnosis of images suggestive of this condition. Keywords: Carotid atherosclerosis. Panoramic radiography. Stroke. Calcifications.Artigo Científico Acesso fechado Disostose cleidocraniana: relato de caso(2017) Marcon, Tayane VicençoCleidocranial dysostosis (CCD) is a rare congenital bone disorder with an autosomal dominant genetic pattern, which has a prevalence of 1 in 1 million. It is caused mainly by a mutation in the RUNX2 transmission gene, a gene required for differentiation of percussive cells into osteoblasts, characterized by specific skeletal anomalies and oral manifestations. Its main features include delayed fontanelle closure, hypoplastic clavicles, and narrow thorax. In oral manifestations, it presents delayed exfoliation of deciduous teeth, delayed eruption of permanent teeth and multiple supernumerary teeth. Early diagnosis is paramount for success of treatment in patients, and may involve several professionals from the area acting together. The objective of the present study is to report a clinical case of an adolescent with cleidocranial dysostosis, who presents around 24 supernumerary teeth. Treatment options for patients with this condition are discussed, also the best treatment option for the presented clinical case.Artigo Científico Acesso embargado Manifestações bucais em pacientes portadores de sífilis: revisão de literatura(2017) Silva, Julia Possamai DellaSyphilis has returned to be a problem of Public Health in the World and in Brazil. A disease that can be transmitted by the dissemination of the bacterium Treponema Pallidum in several ways, the more often reports are by unprotected sexual intercourse and vertically infected pregnant woman to her fetus. Classified in three stages, plus a latency period, syphilis may present several types of manifestations, including buccal ones. Therefore, the role of dental surgeon is paramount in the manifestations diagnosis of the disease, because they can be confused with other diseases. The faster the diagnosis, whether by physician or dental surgeon, the patient's prognosis tends to be better. The prevention and control not only of syphilis, but also of other sexually transmitted infections should be made, especially with recommendations about safe sexual practice, and in the suspicion thereof, the patient should be diagnosed not only through clinical exams, also with serological tests and biopsy of lesions, to continue the appropriate treatment. The purpose of the present study is to describe, through a literature review, the main oral manifestations in patients with Syphilis according to the disease stage. We conclude that the dentist plays an extremely essential role, as well as another health professional, in the diagnosis of lesions present in patients infected by the bacteria, especially those that occur in the oral cavity.Monografia Acesso aberto Modelagem de canais radiculares utilizando o movimento reciprocante(2017) Lemos, ViníssiusChemical mechanical preparation of root canal is considered the stage which require larger amount of time during endondontic treatment. Then, mechanized instrumentalization comes to decrease the required amount of time, as well as the simplification of root canal instrumentalization. Over the years, there was an evolution in endodontontic instruments manufacturing, mainly by NiTi, with specific design and cinematic, what enables an optimization of preparation techniques. Kinematic recoprocating is a greater rotation in anticlockwise (cutting direction), followed by a lower in a clockwise (liberation), what favor the progressive advance of instrument until the work length and avoids the threading effect. Reciprocal movement leads to the stress reduction, the deformation and the fracture by clinical fatigue. The aim of this work was to review the literature on root canal modeling using the reciprocating movement regarding to the cleaning and modeling canals, apical extrusion of debris and instruments resistance. Better results regarding to the cleaning and We conclude the Reciprocating systems are presented as an excellent option, with better results regarding to the fracture strength, cleaning and modelling, and reduction of work time, when compared to the rotatory systems.Monografia Acesso embargado Protetores bucais na prevenção de traumatismos dentais durante a prática esportiva(2017) Chagas, Victor SeverinoThe present study aimed to analyze all aspects related to mouth guards as a means of preventing dental trauma during sports practice, from sports dentistry, historical aspects about sports dentistry, dental trauma resulting from sports practice, classification of injuries dental injuries, the characteristics of mouth guards and types of mouth guards. In this work a literature review was carried out in order to highlight the effectiveness of the use of mouth guards during sports practice. The study was done through scientific articles, books researched in the period from March 2017 until September 2017, found from the databases such as Pub Med, Medline, Scielo and research on the Google academic site. It can be concluded that the use of the mouth guard, especially made by the dentist surgeon type III protector, is extremely important to prevent or reduce both the incidence and severity of dental trauma and support structures resulting from sports. L-PRF. Fibrina. Cicatrização.Monografia Acesso embargado Placa oclusal como opção de controle para o bruxismo do sono: revisão de literatura(2017) Briguente, Guilherme LebarbenchonThe present literature review aims to discuss the occlusal plaque as a control option for sleep bruxism. Knowing about bruxism, it was observed that it has a multifactorial etiology. This makes diagnosis and treatment difficult. Based on the literature reviewed, it was possible to notice that the main signs and symptoms of bruxism are teeth grinding, tooth wear, sound manifestations, temporomandibular joint pain (TMJ), elevating muscle hypertrophy and myalgias (muscular pain) . Although multifactorial, it is possible to identify the etiological or predisposing factors that allow to park bruxism and to control it, as well as to prevent its evolution. The occlusal plates can alter the occlusion of the patient, thus creating stable occlusal contacts and, consequently, a more favorable maxillomandibular relationship. The occlusal plaque enhances the function of the masticatory system, reduces abnormal muscle activity, improves and stabilizes TMJ function, protects the teeth from friction and from adverse traumatic loads. Thus, it is of fundamental importance a careful and early diagnosis to reduce the consequences of bruxism, because in some cases, if the parafunction is not controlled, the damage may be irreversible. Keywords: Sleep bruxism, Temporo-mandibular dysfunctions, Occlusal plaque.Artigo Científico Acesso aberto Reabilitação prótetica em paciente infantil com displasia ectodérmica(2017) Herdt, Lidiane Ouriques da SilvaEctodermal Dysplasia is a group of genetic diseases in which various anomalies occur in structures derived from the ectodermal leaflet. The most common forms are characterized by absence or defect in the teeth, hair, skin, nails, salivary glands and sweat glands. This study reports the prosthetic treatment of a 9-year-old male patient diagnosed with Hypohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia. With the confirmation of the absence of formation of the majority of the permanent teeth, and consequent deficiency of the maxillary and mandibular bone, the patient was submitted to the rehabilitation treatment, through the use of upper and lower removable partial dentures. The use of prostheses was chosen because it is considered a less invasive treatment, with a higher cost-benefit. The phonetic evaluation of the patient before and after the installed prosthesis confirmed the improvement of pronunciation. The results of this study demonstrate that total prosthetic rehabilitation, besides improving masticatory and phonetic functions, restored self-esteem, oral health and a better integration of this child into his family, educational, and social environment.Artigo Científico Acesso aberto Toxina botulínica no tratamento do sorriso gengival(2017) Sombrio, BárbaraThe aesthetic smile is determined not only by your color, but also by the lips and the gums, that should be as harmonious as the dental criteria itself. When the individual has an exaggerated gingival exposure, is called gingival smile, and this situation can influence the self-esteem and the social relationship for that person. Many therapeutic options were proposals for the treatment of gingival smile, such as gingivectomy or gingivolplasty, myectomy, orthognathic surgery and more recently the use of botulinum toxin.in cases where the etiologic factor of gingival smile comes up with a hyperactivity of upper lip, the botulinum toxin appears as a simple and less evasive alternative when compared with the surgical procedures, which ones cause a larger morbidity to the patients. This study aims to describe, through a review of great literatures, as evidence that justify the use of the botulinum toxin for the treatment of gingival smile. The methodology adopted was the biographic research of scientific articles, restricted in the portuguese and english language and used the platforms and databases online, such as PubMed, SciELO, MEDline, Bireme and Google Scholar.Artigo Científico Acesso aberto Ação de bebidas energéticas sobre o esmalte dental - revisão de literatura(2017) Santos, Tuany ScarduelliDental enamel is the most mineralized tissue of the human body, covers and protects the crown of the tooth, possessing approximately 96% of the mineral content, the rest being water and organic compounds. The increasing consumption of food and beverages, as well as its effect of damaging dental structures, has been attracting great interest in contemporary dentistry. The dissolution of the enamel can cause two types of lesions, a caries and dental erosion. A dental erosion and a progressive localized pathological process leading to the loss of hard dental tissue, which is chemically removed from the tooth surface per animal and / or chelation without bacterial involvement. The most important extrinsic source of acid exposure is diet, becoming fundamental or knowledge of potentially erosive agents. For some years now, as energy drinks have been consumed by a large part of the population, by athletes and also by young people at parties. The objective of this work was to review a literature on the action of energetic beverages on dental enamel, its pH and its erosive potential. There is great concern on the part of dental surgeons with the consumption of alcoholic beverages, mostly acid pH, between 2.1 and 3.2, causing dental erosion. Research has shown that despite the lack of development of several formulations to combat a loss or increase the resistance of the dental structure to the acid challenge, there is mineral loss (Ca and P) in all mirrors of all groups studied. It is concluded, therefore, as energy drinks, capacity to promote mineral losses, consequently, dental erosion, due to the low pH. The possible deleterious action of these beverages on dental surfaces requires the dental surgeon to act preventively, alerting his patients about the unwanted effects that can be occasioned by their frequent consumption.Monografia Acesso embargado Queratocisto odontogênico: relato de caso clínico(2017) Minatto, Luana Da SilvaOdontogenic keratocyst is a cystic lesion which affects mainly the jaw region, and it can be related or not to a dental element. Because there is not a consensus among which technique is most appropriate for its treatment, it becomes a great challenge for surgeons. It has a high rate of relapse and aggressive behavior. The causes of the recurrence indexes of this lesion depend on factors such as age, location, lesion size, type of treatment and histological variant. The aim of this study was to perform a literature review addressed to aspects regarding to odontogenic keratocysts, especially the treatment ways, advantages and limitations, as well as presenting a clinical case report of a patient submitted to total enucleation of the lesion. Artigo Científico Acesso aberto Tecido adiposo bucal como enxerto para patologias intraorais(2017) Napoli, Inês GarciaAbstract: This work developed a literature review on the buccal fatty tissue (BFT). General aim was to perform a literature review to understand the importance of BFT for surgical treatment of pathologies and intraoral diseases. For specific aims we determined: (i) performing a data survey on the BFT usage on oral pathologies treatment; (ii) confronting different woks to verify possible applications of BFT in oral pathologies treatment; (iii) discussing data surveyed and consider on the theme. Selected method was the literature review, and demonstrated all the publications on the subject affirm the BFT is appropriate for different treatments applied to intraoral pathologies, and none demonstrated inefficiency, even this usage could present limitations. Results pointed BFT usage is a viable alternative for intraoral pathologies treatment, considered the possibilities of complications. However, it is important highlight the surgical success depends on the skills presented by the surgeon dentist.Monografia Acesso embargado Efeitos clínicos do l- PRF após exodontia de terceiros molares: uma revisão de literatura(2017) Giongo, Talita RosaExodontia of impacted third molars is one of the most frequent surgical procedures in dentistry, responsible for several postoperative symptoms and complications, such as: pain, edema, bleeding, trismus and alveolar osteitis. The objective of this study was to evaluate, through a literature review, how L-PRF influences tissue healing, bone regeneration and control of the most recurrent complications after extraction of these teeth. Fifteen articles were selected on the subject, all published in English, in internationally recognized journals, from 2011 to 2017. The use of this biomaterial seems to be a very promising option to promote and accelerate tissue regeneration, reduce the complications described and prevent alveolar osteitis. However, larger samples are needed on this subject in order to make the use of L-PRF an increasingly predictable treatment alternative. Artigo Científico Acesso embargado Alterações periodontais em pacientes submetidos ao uso de aparelho ortodôntico fixo(2017) Marciano, Kaian da SilvaThe present work deals with a literature review of periodontal diseases in patients submitted to the use of fixed orthodontic appliance. It describes the various aspects that involve the areas of periodontics and orthodontics, relating the biological reactions of the periodontium to the placement of the fixed orthodontic appliance, its causes and consequences. It is commented on the modifications in the oral microbiota during orthodontic treatment, also commented on how to do a correct periodontal monitoring during orthodontic treatment, this text shows the importance of the partnership of the periodontist and the orthodontist in the prevention of irreversible periodontal damage during treatment orthodontic.Artigo Científico Acesso aberto Análise de medidas angulares e lineares relacionadas à erupção e impacção de terceiros molares inferiores(2017) Bacha, LaraObjectives: to evaluate which linear and angular measures are associated with impaction and eruption of lower third molars. Material and methods: the survey was a cross-sectional observational study. The material consisted of panoramic radiographs performed prior to orthodontic treatments, of men and women between 18 and 40 years of age. After 287 sample selection participants were divided into 2 groups according to the third lower molar: erupted and impacted. Linear and angular measurements were carried out regarding third molars in panoramic radiograph. The T independent test was used to compare the mean values obtained for each analyzed variable in relation to the eruption or dental impacting situation, a confidence interval of 95%. The Chi-Square test was used to evaluate the mean values of the measures assessed according to gender and their relation to the tooth situation. Results: All the parameters evaluated showed a statistically significant difference when comparing the two groups (p<0.05). The retromolar space in impacted teeth was significantly decreased in relation to erupted teeth. The angulation beta was higher in impacted teeth, with a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). No statistically significant difference was found between genre and tooth status. Only the alpha and beta angulations are not related with the genders. Conclusion: all the measurements performed on the panoramic radiographs have relationship with the eruption and impaction of the lower third molars. Reduced retromolar space influences on impaction, as well as lower alpha angulation and major beta angulation. The gender does not influence the situation of the lower third molars, however, with the exception of alpha and beta angulation, the parameters differ when compared to the female and male.Monografia Acesso embargado Dor neuropática orofacial como consequência da instalação de implantes(2017) Cardozo, Lucas da silvaThis literature review aims to highlight the main neuropathic orofacial pain and sensitive trigeminal abnormalities, its origin, focusing on neuropathies after the installation of implants, reporting knowledge of anatomical aspects, their diagnoses and their therapies, aiming to provide comfort and health to the patient. Many professionals in the dental area are not able to diagnose cases involving orofacial neuropathic pain. With this we want to elucidate the knowledge of the dental surgeon about orofacial neuropathic pain after the installation of implants. Orofacial neuropathic pain is a pain in the orofacial region, initiated or caused by primary injury or dysfunction of the central or peripheral nervous system. The lesion of the nervous system is the result of functional changes that can be located at any level of the nervous axis, from the peripheral nerve to the brain. There are several etiologies for DN beyond implants such as angiomas, brain stem infarcts and tumors, such as the acoustic neurinoma. Today, the resources for diagnosis, planning and treatment are widely used, such as concomitant computed tomography and other complementary exams, avoiding possible surgical complications, however, some complications may still occur. These complications may occur in different clinical conditions, such as anesthesia, paresthesia, hypoesthesia, hyperesthesia and / or dysesthesia. The dental implant is considered a gold standard for edentulous or partially edentulous people. When the nerve is injured, immediate removal of the implants is recommended, suggesting that they be reimplanted a few days later. Early removal in cases of direct damage to the nerve may decrease neuropathy and even restore full sensory functions. With this, it is possible to report, that the knowledge of the professional has ample importance in relation to the complications of the implants. Keywords: Neuropathic pain.
