Artigo Científico Acesso embargado Estudo das atividades do licopeno na pele: uma revisão sistemática(2017) Brunel, Nandhara CalegariIntroduction: Lycopene is a carotenoid pigment that gives tomatoes their red coloration. Although it has no pro-vitamin function, lycopene is considered the carotenoid that has the greatest sequestering ability of singlet oxygen. A diet that includes food sources of lycopene can prevent oxidative stress and cell damage, slowing down the aging process. Objective: To identify the activities that have been used in the treatment of skin dysfunctions in the global context, as well as which clinical studies have identified their actions. Methods: A manual and electronic bibliographic survey was performed on the MEDLINE database using Pubmed using the following terms in English as descriptors and as words: lycopene, skin and dermatology from 1997 to 2017. Results: it was identified (18.54 (11.92%), randomized and controlled clinical trials, another study (14.56%) and animal studies (23.84%). The countries of the studies were diversified. The results also showed that lycopene is used, most of the time, orally and in several aetiologies affected of the skin, without specific contraindications, being effective and safe. Conclusion: It was concluded that this study contributed to demonstrate the use of lycopene in this period, as a source of consultation, besides pointing to the need for research with greater methodological rigor, which provide strong evidence of its use and recommendation. Key words: lycopene, skin, dermatological
