Artigo Científico Acesso embargado Aleitamento materno e excesso de peso em pré-escolares de dois a cinco anos de idade(2018) Velozo, Larissa TachibanaObjective: To verify the possible protective effect of breastfeeding against overweight in pre-school children. Methods: A descriptive study, transversal temporality and quantitative approach, with a non-probabilistic sample involving preschoolers aged two to five years, enrolled in a Public Early Childhood Education Center (CEI) in the municipality of Palhoça, Santa Catarina. The nutritional status was assessed by the BMI-Z-score (WHO curves) according to sex and a questionnaire was applied on breastfeeding and complementary feeding to pre-school mothers. Results: Risk of overweight was found in 26.9% of the evaluated and overweight in 13.4%, but most were classified as eutrophic (59.7%). The practice of breastfeeding (regardless of duration) was reported by 88.1% of pre-school mothers, with no significant difference in weight status (no or overweight) (p = 0.883). Among the 59 mothers who breastfed, a little more than a quarter of them (25.4%) reported having breastfed for up to five months, and almost 75% breastfed for six months or more. The average months of introduction of all food groups were over five months. However, minimum values indicated that all other foods were introduced as early as the first month of life. Conclusion: Despite the high prevalence of breastfeeding reported by mothers / guardians, this practice was not associated with protection against overweight in pre-school children.Artigo Científico Acesso embargado Avaliação do consumo alimentar de lactentes atendidos em Unidades Básicas de Saúde de um município da Grande Florianópolis–Santa Catarina(2019) Scheidt, Juliane Eduarda; Pruinelli, Luiza Carolina de CristoObjective: To evaluate the infants diets treated at Basic Health Units of a city in Florianópolis, in Santa Catarina, and compare their diets to those recommended by the Ministry of Health. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study, with filling out a form by the guardians of children from six months to two years old who were attended at Basic Health Units, in 2019. The data were analyzed comparing the consumption of infant diet to the recommendations of the Ministry of Health (2019), which are described in the “Food Guide for Brazilian Children Under Two”. Results: A total of 122 children were evaluated, with an average age of 12,6±4,93 months. Liquids like water, teas or juice (68%) and fruits (51,6%) represented the most introduced before six months. At the time of the survey, 46,7% of the children had already been weaned. The food groups with the highest daily intake were fruits (78,6%), vegetables (73,8%), cereals and tubers (68,9%), meat and eggs (67,2%), legumes (61,5%), cookies, bread and cakes (45,1%), soups (43,3%) and dairy products (31,1%). Furthermore, 79,5% of infants had already received processed foods. Conclusions: The diet of infants is inadequate according to current recommendations of the Ministry of Health in terms of breast feeding, and introduction of processed foods.Artigo Científico Acesso embargado Prevalência do aleitamento materno e introdução precoce da alimentação complementar em Unidades Básicas de Saúde da Grande Florianópolis-Santa Catarina(2019) Pruinelli, Luiza Carolina de Cristo; Scheidt, Juliane EduardaObjective: To identify the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding until the sixth month and factors associated with the practice that may lead to the early introduction of complementary feeding in infants treated at Basic Health Units in a city of Greater Florianopolis, Santa Catarina. Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative and retrospective study, composed of infants from six months to two years, selected by convenience. Data collection was performed through an interview in two Basic Health Units of Greater Florianopolis (Santa Catarina), with parents or guardians. The form assessed socioeconomic issues of mothers, gestational and child information. Descriptive statistical analysis (frequency and mean) and chi-square test. Results: Up to six months, Complemented Breastfeeding predominated (45.9%) followed by Exclusive Breastfeeding (21.3%). The greatest difficulty reported by mothers to start breastfeeding was incorrect handling (22.3%). The variables associated with early introduction of complementary feeding were pacifiers (p=0.000), baby bottle (p=0.000) and place of first breastfeeding (p=0.001), as possible factors for early introduction of complementary feeding. The reasons most frequently cited by the mothers who justified the interruption of breastfeeding were: “milk dried up”, “refusal of the baby”, “return to work” and “pain”. Conclusions: Exclusive Breastfeeding rates are low and are in disagreement with the World Health Organization recommendation. Pacifier use, bottle and place of first breastfeeding are factors associated with early introduction of complementary feeding. Breastfeeding was justified by mothers due to “dried milk”, “baby refusal”, “return to work” and “pain”.
