To analyze the time trend of hospital admissions due to external causes: TTA, falls and assaults in the state of Santa Catarina, from 2008 to 2014. This is an ecological time-series study, with data from 45.000 hospitalizations due to TTA, 147,049 due to falls, and 5,575 due to assaults. For the analysis of the time trend by the simple linear regression method, the hospitalization rates were used. The general rate of hospital admissions due to TTA in the period analyzed increased from 66.09 to 114.95/100.000 inhabitants. The increase in hospitalization rates due to TTA was higher in males, ranging from 100.89 to 176.47/100.000 inhabitants. Among women, it increased from 31.10 to 53.07 hospitalizations/100.000. The general rate of hospital admissions due to falls increased from 275.41 to 346.19 per 100.000 inhabitants. Rates of hospital admissions due to falls remained stable in males. Among women, it rose from 184.63 to 242.26 hospitalizations/100.000. Regarding assaults, the general rate of hospital admissions remained stable in both sexes. It can be concluded that there was an increase in the general rates of hospital admissions due to ATT and falls, with maintenance of general rates for assaults.
