The objective of this study is to identify the prevalence of the use of anabolic steroids by bodybuilding practitioners in the city of Tubarão-SC, as well as to verify the profile of the practitioners, identify the most used anabolic steroids, identify the reason that led to their use, verify the environment in which he was able to acquire anabolic steroids, identify possible side effects from use, identify the intention to use anabolic steroids. This is a cross-sectional study, with descriptive, associative, quantitative characteristics. The instrument used for data collection was in the form of a questionnaire with closed questions. Data collection took place in June 2020. Data analysis was performed through EXCEL 2013. Sixty male and female bodybuilders participated in the survey, with an average age of 31.5 ± 6.8 years, 36 male and 24 female. The prevalence of anabolic steroid use was 13.3%, for strength and muscle mass gain. It is concluded that a small number of bodybuilding practitioners in this study make use of anabolic steroids, showing that there is even a small number of anabolic steroids by weight training practitioners of both sexes. The consumption of dietary supplements among study participants was 51.6% through self-indication or recommended by a physical education teacher. The prevalence of anabolic steroid use was 13.3%, for strength and muscle mass gain. With a period of use that varies between 6 months and 1 year and has possible side effects, high blood pressure and aggression. It is concluded that a small number of bodybuilding practitioners in this study make use of anabolic steroids, showing that there is even a small number of anabolic steroids by weight training practitioners of both sexes.
