Relatório de Estágio Acesso fechado Extração e caracterização de Tall Oil(2018) Piola, Luandro VargasThe pulp and paper industry has many kinds of wastewater and most of the times they’re almost fully reused or generate energy. Thus, the treatment of the oil and fatty acids present on the kraft process’ wood has been required, since they’re toxic effluents and also impair the recycling of raw materials of the cellulose processing in general. The refining of these oils is extremely important because it can generate an added value depending on its quality. The purpose of the present dissertation was to compare the extraction methods of the oil and its quality, also characterizing its wastewater after the refining. The tall oil soap was acquired in the city of Fraiburgo, Santa Catarina and taken to Unisul campus at Tubarão, Santa Catarina. Two extraction methods were used and for determining the quality of the vegetable oils, analysis as flash point, viscosity, infrared spectroscopy, gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and analysis as fats and oils, sulphides, COD, BOD and pH to characterize the effluent were made. A result of 54.26% of the oil was achieved after the acid refining and the infrared spectrum showed the absorption in 1715 cm-1 region, characterizing the presence of carboxylic acids. The gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) showed an oil rich in fatty acids. The wastewater produced was determined as unfeasible to direct discharge because it presents a high concentration of organic matter (COD and BOD), fats and oils 38.44mg.L-1 and soluble sulphides 14.12 mg.L-1. Key words: Tall oil. Characterization. Wastewate.
