Peeling is one of the procedures for the removal of the pathology. Cosmetic peeling formulations may be composed of AHAs, BHAs or PHAs. Gluconolactone is a representative of PHAs, is a non-toxic component, which can be used in treatments for acne among corneocytes and has anti-inflammatory activity. Objectives: Search for a systematic literature review of how gluconolactone works in the treatment of acne. Analyze the scientific studies that have used this product, comparing the effectiveness of the same and other acids in the treatment of acne; to verify as variables analyzed in the studies: degree of acne, percentage of gluconolactone and other acids in the formulation, pH, results, number of days and time of use of products containing gluconolactone. Results: Articles dated between 1992 and 2019 were selected from Google, Academic, PubMed and Web of Science search engines. A search resulted in a total of 291 articles. Of these, 282 were excluded, with 3 repeated studies in the searches, and only 1 article did not count repetition, leaving 4 studies for the critique in this systematic review. Conclusion: It concludes with this study using gluconolactone results - research results on diseases of inflammation or not, as well as better tolerance to treatment as well as in relation to the main active. It is recommended to use gluconolactone without acne treatment, without association with other active ingredients, to analyze the concentration and the ideal pH of gluconolactone, to be used without acne treatment, without response to the adverse impact and results of satisfactory results.
