Introduction: Depression is a mental health disorder that is multifactorial, and manifests mainly as changes in mood, constant sadness, fatigue, among others. The gut-brainaxis has shown a strong correlation with the intestinal microbiota. Probiotic supplementation has the main objective of regulating the intestinal microbiota and its modulation could have positive effects in individuals with depression. Methodology: To carry out this research, the Pubmed, BVS and SciELO databases were used, where articles in Portuguese or English from the last 5 years (2018-2023) were selected, with adults aged 18 and over of both sexes. Results: The study involved a total of 44 articles found, of which 8 articles were selected, after going through the selection stages: exclusion of duplicates, reading of the titles and reading of the articles in full. Conclusion: Studies have shown promising effects of the probiotic’s supplementation as a complementary therapy to current ones.
