Objective: To analyze the temporal trend of the clinical and epidemiological profile of intensive care units in Santa Catarina from 2010 to 2019. Material and method: Observational study of ecological type using the databases of the Hospital Information System (SIH) and population data. Results: In the period from 2010 to 2019, there were 202,426 admissions to Intensive Care Units (ICUs) for adults in Santa Catarina, with a result of 91.5% being white. Among the sexes, 58.32% of the patients were male. The Midwest and Serra Catarinense, Foz do Rio Itajaí and Alto Vale do Itajaí regions had the highest hospitalization averages per inhabitant in the period studied. The macro-region of Florianópolis concentrates 25.8% of the ICU beds. Among the age groups, with the highest number in the period were patients between 60-69, but the highest average hospitalization rates were found in older patients, between 70 and 79 years old and those over 80 years old. The most prevalent chapter of CID10 as a reason for hospitalization was IX. The mortality and lethality rates of these units were, respectively, 1.03% and 24.88%. Conclusion: It was concluded that the clinical and epidemiological profile of intensive care units in the state of Santa Catarina are predominantly male, elderly white, between 60-69 years of age due to cardiovascular, respiratory or external causes. The region of greater Florianópolis has the best number of ICU beds / inhabitants in order to offer the demands of those who need high complexity care.
