The abuse in question is a disrespectful practice that ends up tarnishing the electoral process and facing the exercise of democracy. Countless are the illicit means used by the ones involved in the electoral suits to gain the power. Candidates take advantage of the public machine, and / or too much financial resources, to deceive the citizen by inducing him to exercise vitiated his right to vote in favor of a pre-established candidate. Voting is a constitutionally protected right, and must be treated as a precious commodity, because it is through it that the people express their will, and choose who will decide the future of the country. The method used is the deductive, characterizing the present research is characterized as bibliographical and documentary, based on doctrines, articles, legislation and jurisprudence. Following a doctrinal assessment, based on the prevailing legislation, one can answer the initial question formulated: how are the abuse of political and economic power in the electoral process characterized, and what are the mechanisms to combat this illicit practice? to conclude that political and economic power must remain inert, so that the normality of the democratic electoral process is not violated. In addition to existing legal means, it is true that in order to curb abusive practices, it is necessary to create more effective and efficient mechanisms, and a proper investment in public financing of campaigns, so that democracy and equality reign and have time Being that for that each citizen must do its part, denouncing and charging of the authorities more transparency of its acts, since they can reach the citizen directly.
